The President is responsible for boldly planning the direction of the CSS for the year. Their duties include delegating tasks amongst the executive team, calling general meetings to order, arranging graduation photos for Cognitive Systems students, acting as liaison to the Student Administrative Commission, and doing everything they can to build consensus and demonstrate strong leadership.
The VP Admin chairs and transcribes weekly meetings. Oversees the progress of events. Organizes and counts ballots during the end-of-year club elections. Some key duties include:
The VP Finance manages the financial affairs of the club and is responsible for planning and tracking all of the club’s expenditures. The treasurer also acts as liaison to the AMS Finance Commission, acts as one of the two Booking Representatives, and is the sole signing officer of the CSS. Some key duties include:
The VP Industry connects the CSS to businesses, and organizations with COGS-related interests. Their main responsibility is to be the organization of the Technical Career Fair held at the end of January. Some key duties include:
The VP Social acts as the webmaster and social media manager for the club. They maintain the online presence of the CSS by creating events through the Facebook page, maintaining this website, creating graphics, and putting out the newsletter each month. The VP Social also works closely alongside the VP Media to co-ordinate our publicity and advertising strategies.
The VP Media is responsible for generating and sharing new content, such as gathering and editing submissions for the blog and taking on the role of photographer at CSS events. Their position also overlaps with that of the VP Social, with general advertising duties, generation of social media posts, website maintenance, and the design of club graphics.
The VP Academic The VP Academic helps address academic concerns of the students. This can range from helping COGS TAs run study sessions to taking a lead role in academically-focused events and initiatives, such as peer-tutoring and the Undergraduate Research Conference. This position also takes on the role of liaison between the students of CSS and the Cognitive Systems faculty.
The AUS Representative acts as a liaison and is part of the the UBC AUS (Arts Undergraduate Society) council, where they participate in running the arts society and its events as well as represent the CSS. The AUS Rep also acts as the primary liaison to other AUS clubs.
The SUS Representative is in charge of writing and submitting the SUS clubs operations grant, which is due in November. They are also responsible for communicating with SUS regarding club events and club 1:1 which happen once per term. They are also responsible for coordinating with the SUS Departmental Representative for COGS and they should strongly consider running for the position. The Departmental Representative sits on SUS Council, which meets every two weeks to discuss issues regarding SUS and its constituents. The VP External also spends time planning events and workshops, volunteering at events, and discussing the direction of the club with the rest of the CSS executive team.

- Attending an Orientation Session for Treasurers and successfully complete their test
- Apply for grants with the AUS and SUS Reps
- Handling the CSS account held by the AMS
- Organize the budget plan during weekly meetings with other executives

- Help organize the Technical Career Fair by attending TCF meetings and representing COGS interests
- Reach out to and make connections with companies for sponsorship deals
- Serve as link between the CSS and potential employers/companies
- Organize workshops around COGS related skills
